How We Grew 3,000 YouTube Subscribers In 1 Year
It was Jan 3rd, 2022, and Jake and I decided to post a youtube video once a week for a year and see what would happen. Our goal: turn our passion into profit! In this blog, we are going to show you the numbers and what we wish we know going into our video posting journey.
First I want to show you the last 365-day subscriber count so you can see the 3k growth we had.

One year ago from the date I am writing this (5/22/2023), we had 160 subscribers! We saw very little growth going all the way into September 2022. But we kept on pushing and trying new things. We were dedicated and still are 😉
Here is a lifetime chart that gives a really good idea of when our creativity and strategy finally started to pay off.

What caused this shift in growth??
SHORT-FORM CONTENT!!!!
YouTube Shorts is where we have gotten 91% of our subscribers.

Let that soak in for a little bit.
We started posting Shorts in mid-July and at first, it was maybe 1 and sometimes 2 subscribers per video. These videos were just us making original content in the garage and posting. Not a lot of strategy. After posting 2-3 times a day, for about a month, and not getting the results we wanted we asked ourselves, “How can we level up our content?” and it smacked us right in the face!
Don’t reinvent the wheel! We started scrolling through social media (mainly Instagram), to find content that was already working and make our own versions. It worked!! We started creating trending content and sharing it on all of our platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, and YouTube Shorts. Our Tiktok grew from 2472 to 8505, Instagram grew from 247 to 425 (Instagram has been tough on us for some reason), and Facebook grew from 147 to 4777!!
If you want us to make a video and break down how we edit our short-form content let us know in the comments below!

This growth helped us get monetized on YouTube and Facebook! It's just a few dollars a day now but it is something that makes things a little more motivating to do 😀
I know this is all probably really obvious, create content that is already trending but when you are first getting started, like us, we had no idea how to make those videos! It was so far from our skillset that it wasn’t on our radar but after putting in consistent work posting long-form content and short-form content, we realized he had the skills to replicate these videos and level up our content. My point is to create content and build your skills! Be you, film yourself and post content! It doesn’t need to be edited or have strategy, that will all come with time! Eventually, you will be right there next to us and our abilities or heck even pass us with your abilities! Now that would be sweet and I would consider my mission completed if one person passed us up 😀 Seriously I don’t think it would be that hard - I know there are super talented people reading this that just need to start their journey with that first step with some consistency and you would be on your way. Here is a link to one of our first videos and a heads up - It’s not that good! Installing A New Ignition | The Irrational International And trust me - I have an older YouTube channel that is way worse lol Do not be afraid of getting started!
Conclusion:
Short-form content is king right now, build off of what is already working on these platforms, and don’t let perfection stop you from making content you are passionate about and building your skills. The right people will see you when you are getting started, follow you, and more people will see you again, and hop on to watch the journey as you grow. I will end with a question: What is stopping you from creating content and turning your passion into profit?
I hope this resonates with you and if it does share it with a friend! Oh, and don’t forget to join our email list so you get notified when a new blog post comes out!
